Abstract

Corrosion of reinforcement in concrete structures represents the main problem that causes a
reduction in time of the safety level. Once this phenomenon is initiated, it shortens the service life of
the reinforced concrete elements by crack initiation, propagation and expulsion of the cover
concrete layer due to expansion of steel corrosion. The analysed structure is a reinforced concrete
water tank, situated in Vișan village, Iași county. Following the visual analysis, different types of
degradations (due to exploitation causes, periodic interventions on the structure) have been
identified. The assessment of the degradations level has been realised using the combined nondestructive method for the determination of the concrete class affected by the corrosion process.
Based on the obtained results, some technical intervention measures have been proposed.
